  • Man Apprehended After Strangling Woman and Slicing Her Hand in Violent Lake Bluff Incident

Man Apprehended After Strangling Woman and Slicing Her Hand in Violent Lake Bluff Incident

Lake County, IL – July 17, 2025 -A harrowing domestic incident in unincorporated Lake Bluff ended in an arrest early Thursday morning after a man allegedly strangled a woman and sliced her hand with a knife during a violent confrontation inside her apartment.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that 25-year-old Angel Diaz, of the 400 block of Raphael Avenue in unincorporated Lincolnshire, was taken into custody shortly after midnight following an earlier violent outburst that forced his acquaintances to call 911 for help.

    Violent Encounter

The incident began at approximately 8:25 p.m. on July 16, when deputies were dispatched to an apartment in the 600 block of Washington Avenue after receiving a 911 call reporting a man armed with a knife and threatening individuals inside the home.

According to the preliminary investigation, Diaz was visiting the apartment of two acquaintances — 25-year-old Jessica Morales and her 23-year-old boyfriend — when he became aggressive and belligerent, appearing intoxicated. Witnesses told deputies that Diaz began a verbal altercation which quickly escalated to violence.

At one point during the confrontation, Diaz produced a knife and slashed Jessica Morales’s hand, causing a laceration. He then reportedly choked her, placing her in fear for her life. Both Morales and her boyfriend managed to briefly escape Diaz and call 911 for help.

When deputies arrived at the scene, Diaz had already fled the apartment, apparently after realizing law enforcement had been alerted.

    Return and Arrest

Deputies canvassed the area that evening in an attempt to locate Diaz, but he remained at large. However, in a disturbing turn of events, Diaz returned to the same apartment just a few hours later.

At approximately 12:45 a.m., Morales called 911 again to report that Diaz was pounding on the apartment door and refusing to leave. Sheriff’s deputies swiftly responded and were able to apprehend Diaz without further incident.

    Charges Filed

After a comprehensive review of the case, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved several felony charges against Angel Diaz, including:

    • Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon
    • Aggravated Battery – Strangulation
    • Aggravated Assault

Diaz was transported to the Lake County Jail, where he remains held pending an initial court appearance scheduled for Thursday morning.

    Victim Recovering

Despite the terrifying ordeal, officials reported that Jessica Morales’s injuries did not require hospitalization, though she was clearly shaken by the attack. Her boyfriend was not physically harmed.

Sheriff’s officials commended the swift action of the 911 emergency telecommunicators and responding deputies, noting that without Morales’s second call, the situation could have escalated even further.

    Ongoing Investigation

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office emphasized that the investigation remains active, and further charges may be considered depending on additional evidence or statements.

This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of domestic and acquaintance violence, especially when alcohol and weapons are involved. Law enforcement officials are urging residents to report any signs of domestic threats or unsafe behavior immediately.

Anyone with additional information related to this incident is encouraged to contact the Lake County Sheriff’s Office at (847) 377-4000 or submit anonymous tips through their Crime Stoppers platform.

  • BREAKING NEWS: Body Found in River Near Beardsley Park in Elkhart, Indiana — Possible Homicide Investigation Underway

BREAKING NEWS: Body Found in River Near Beardsley Park in Elkhart, Indiana — Possible Homicide Investigation Underway

IElkhart, IN — July 17, 202 – A grim discovery has prompted a major police and emergency response this afternoon in Elkhart, Indiana, after a body was found face down in the river near 300 E Beardsley Avenue, close to Beardsley Park. Law enforcement officials have confirmed the incident is being treated as a possible homicide, and a full investigation is now underway.

According to early reports, Elkhart City Police responded to a 911 call placed by a local woman who claimed she witnessed a man throw the victim into the river. However, she was described by officers at the scene as “not forthcoming with details,” leaving detectives with more questions than answers as they attempt to piece together what happened.

First responders arrived on scene to find the body of an adult male submerged face down in the water, with what authorities described as an “obvious 10-0” — police code for a confirmed fatality. The Elkhart Water Rescue team has staged operations at Beardsley Park, working to safely retrieve the body while preserving potential evidence from the scene.

Police have cordoned off a wide area around the riverbank and park, and members of the Elkhart Police Department’s Homicide Division have been called in. As of the latest update, homicide detectives are en route and expected to take over the investigation upon arrival.

    Community on Edge

The discovery has rattled the normally quiet residential area near Beardsley Avenue, with stunned bystanders watching as officers and rescue crews work the scene. Local residents expressed concern and fear as word spread about the potential nature of the crime. “This is really scary. You don’t expect something like this to happen right near the park where kids play,” one resident told reporters near the scene.

    Woman’s Statement Under Review

The woman who allegedly saw the victim being thrown into the river has been detained for questioning. While she did alert authorities, her vague and evasive responses have complicated the timeline and facts surrounding the incident. Police are urging any additional witnesses to come forward with information that could help clarify the situation.

Authorities have not yet identified the victim, and it is unknown at this time how long the body had been in the water or what may have led to the fatal encounter. An autopsy and forensic examination are expected once the body is recovered.

    Investigation Ongoing

As the homicide unit prepares to assume command of the scene, police have issued a public advisory to avoid the area around Beardsley Park and 300 E Beardsley Ave as emergency vehicles and investigators remain active. Water recovery efforts are still in progress.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Elkhart City Police Department or submit tips anonymously through the department’s crime tip line or online portal.

This is a developing story. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

  • Remembering Mark Andol: Visionary Founder of the Made in America Store Dies by Suicide

Remembering Mark Andol: Visionary Founder of the Made in America Store Dies by Suicide

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Mark Andol, the respected and visionary founder of the Made in America Store and owner of General Welding & Fabricating, Inc., who died by suicide in July 2025. A proud son of Buffalo, New York, Mark’s untimely departure has left an immeasurable void in the hearts of his loved ones, employees, customers, and the community he championed for decades.

Mark was not only a successful businessman — he was a patriot, father, mentor, and community leader, whose life’s work inspired a national conversation about the value of American labor and manufacturing. His death comes as a shocking and heartbreaking loss for countless people who admired his leadership, vision, and deep devotion to the American working class.

A Legacy Built on Patriotism and Purpose

In 2010, at a time when outsourcing and job loss plagued local economies, Mark Andol took a bold stand. From a place of personal loss — after seeing one of his own companies suffer due to offshore manufacturing — he founded the Made in America Store in Elma, New York, with a mission that was clear and unwavering: “100% American Made.”

His idea wasn’t just about selling products — it was about restoring pride in the American worker, revitalizing local economies, and reminding the country that quality, resilience, and dignity were still alive and well in the hands of American craftsmen and women. What began as a humble storefront quickly evolved into a national symbol of hope, especially in blue-collar communities that had long been overlooked.

Under his leadership, the store became a movement — one rooted in integrity, grit, and love for country. Thousands of visitors came to Elma each year not just to shop, but to support something larger than themselves. Mark reminded us all that patriotism isn’t just about symbols — it’s about supporting the people who build, weld, sew, and grind.

A Man of Vision, Compassion, and Grit

Beyond his business ventures, Mark was deeply invested in the people around him. He believed in lifting others up, mentoring young entrepreneurs, supporting local veterans, and giving back to the community at every opportunity. His commitment to mental health, employment stability, and economic fairness was evident in both word and deed.

Those who knew Mark best describe him as generous, passionate, and relentlessly optimistic. Even in the face of adversity, he believed in solutions. Even when he encountered skepticism, he responded with hard work. He gave his time, his heart, and his energy to causes he believed in — often behind the scenes and without fanfare.

Mark was also a family man, known for being a proud and devoted father, a loyal son and brother, and a dependable friend. He loved deeply, worked tirelessly, and lived with purpose.

    A Nation Mourns

The news of Mark’s passing has rippled far beyond Western New York. Messages of sorrow and remembrance are pouring in from across the country — from customers, employees, veterans, fellow business owners, and everyday Americans whose lives were touched by his mission.

His death is a stark and painful reminder of the often-invisible struggles faced even by those who appear strong, successful, and confident. In honoring Mark’s legacy, we also reaffirm the urgent need for compassion, support, and awareness surrounding mental health — especially among entrepreneurs, veterans, and community leaders who carry immense burdens behind closed doors.

The Andol family has requested privacy as they grieve this unimaginable loss. They are deeply grateful for the outpouring of love and support and will share details about memorial services in the days ahead.

    Honoring His Legacy

Mark Andol’s life was one of courage, conviction, and care. He proved that one person can make a difference — not just with money or status, but with values, integrity, and an unwavering belief in people. His story will live on in the businesses he built, the jobs he created, and the lives he changed.

As we mourn, let us also honor his legacy by continuing to believe in the things Mark held dear: American labor, strong communities, honest work, and human dignity.

In his memory, may we recommit ourselves to building a better, stronger, and more compassionate America — the kind of country Mark Andol believed in, fought for, and gave everything to uplift.

The Southeast Shelby County community is in mourning following the devastating loss of Taquirney Fifer, a 25-year-old resident of Memphis, who was tragically killed on the night of Wednesday, July 16, 2025, in a fatal shooting that has left family, friends, and neighbors reeling with shock and grief.

According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the City Place at Germantown Apartments, located near Bromden Lane and Scanlon Drive, at approximately 10:25 p.m. after receiving a report of a shooting with injuries. When deputies arrived on the scene, they found Taquirney Fifer lying on the ground, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Deputies immediately began performing CPR in an effort to revive her, continuing their life-saving measures until Shelby County Fire Department personnel arrived. Tragically, despite their efforts, Taquirney was pronounced dead at the scene.

    A Life Cut Tragically Short

Taquirney Fifer was known by many for her warm personality, ambition, and the love she carried for her family and close friends. At just 25 years old, she had so much more life to live — dreams to chase, memories to make, and a future that was unfairly taken from her in a senseless act of violence.

Friends described her as vibrant and kind, someone who could light up a room with her presence. She was a beloved daughter, sister, and friend whose tragic death has created an irreplaceable void in the lives of those who knew and loved her.

“She had such a beautiful spirit,” said one friend on social media. “It’s hard to believe someone so full of life is really gone. We’re broken.”

    Ongoing Investigation

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office has launched a full-scale investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. As of now, no arrests have been made, and authorities have not released any information regarding potential suspects or motives. Officials have confirmed that the incident does not appear to pose a continued threat to public safety, but they are urging anyone with information to come forward.

Residents in the area say they are stunned by the violence that shattered the quiet of their neighborhood. Many are calling for increased security and more community outreach to address the rising concerns about safety and violence across Memphis and surrounding areas.

    Community Response

In the aftermath of the shooting, members of the Southeast Shelby County community have begun organizing a candlelight vigil in Taquirney’s honor, planned to be held near the entrance of the apartment complex. Flowers, photos, and handwritten messages now mark the spot where her life was cut short.

“We’re tired of losing our young people,” said one community member. “Taquirney’s life mattered. She mattered to us, and we will not let her be just another name.”

    A Call for Justice

Taquirney Fifer’s family is pleading with the public for answers. Anyone with knowledge of what happened that night is asked to contact the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office or leave an anonymous tip via CrimeStoppers at (901) 528-CASH. Even the smallest detail, officials say, could help solve this case and bring justice for Taquirney and closure for her grieving loved ones.

As the investigation unfolds, the community holds onto hope that whoever is responsible will be found and held accountable. Meanwhile, those closest to Taquirney are left navigating unimaginable sorrow.

    In Loving Memory

Taquirney’s death is not just a statistic — it is a human tragedy that has struck the heart of a family and an entire community. As friends and loved ones gather to remember her, they speak not only of the tragedy but of the light she brought into the world. Her laughter, her dreams, her generosity, and her spirit will not be forgotten.

Major Crash on Driscoll Bridge Causes Severe Delays; Possible Fatality Reported

Emergency crews responded Thursday morning to a serious traffic collision on the Driscoll Bridge, one of New Jersey’s busiest highway crossings, causing extensive delays and raising concerns of a possible fatality. The crash occurred on the Garden State Parkway, affecting both northbound and southbound traffic lanes and prompting a swift and large-scale emergency response.

According to early reports, the incident occurred just after 7:30 a.m., during peak rush hour traffic, leading to a significant backup stretching for miles in both directions. Multiple vehicles were involved in the crash, which took place near the crest of the bridge, a key juncture connecting Middlesex and Monmouth counties. Witnesses described a chaotic scene with mangled vehicles and debris scattered across multiple lanes.

State Police and emergency medical teams quickly arrived at the scene, along with local fire departments and tow crews. While full details have yet to be confirmed, sources on-site have indicated that at least one person may have died as a result of the crash, though this information remains under investigation. Several others are believed to have sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious.

The New Jersey State Police have closed several lanes in both directions to allow emergency crews to work safely. As of the latest update, only one lane is open in each direction, leading to major delays and significant detours for commuters and commercial vehicles alike.

Motorists are being advised to avoid the area entirely and seek alternative routes, including Routes 9, 18, or 35, if possible. Transit officials are urging patience and caution, noting that cleanup and investigation efforts may take several hours due to the severity of the wreck and the need for accident reconstruction.

A spokesperson for the NJ Turnpike Authority issued a brief statement:

“Emergency responders are actively working the scene of a serious motor vehicle accident on the Driscoll Bridge. Traffic is severely impacted in both directions. We ask drivers to use caution, follow posted detours, and remain alert for first responders on foot.”

Authorities have not yet released the names of any individuals involved in the crash, and next of kin are reportedly still being notified. The New Jersey State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction (CARS) Unit is leading the investigation.
