HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION – PORT RICHMOND -The Philadelphia Police Department is actively investigating a tragic homicide that occurred in the early morning hours of Tuesday, July 15, 2025, in the Port Richmond neighborhood. At approximately 1:37 a.m., officers from the 24th District were dispatched to the area of Salmon and Monmouth Streets for a report of a “person with a gun” and “person shot.”
Upon arrival, officers discovered an unresponsive male lying in the roadway in front of the 2900 block of Salmon Street. The victim, identified as 49-year-old Michael Neumann, a resident of the 2600 block of East Ann Street, had sustained a gunshot wound to the head. Medics responded to the scene and pronounced Neumann deceased at 1:41 a.m. His death has sent shockwaves through the tight-knit Port Richmond community.
Following an intense investigation and coordinated efforts by the Philadelphia Police Homicide Unit, 20-year-old Patrick Suarez, of the 6100 block of Torresdale Avenue, was apprehended on Wednesday, July 16, by 24th District officers. According to reports, Suarez attempted to flee on foot but was captured after a brief pursuit. A firearm was recovered from his possession at the time of his arrest.
Suarez has since been formally charged with the murder of Michael Neumann, along with other related offenses. His arrest brings a measure of relief to the community and to Neumann’s grieving family, though many questions remain as investigators continue to piece together the motive and circumstances leading to the fatal shooting.
Michael Neumann’s life was cut short in an act of senseless violence, and his loved ones are left to mourn the loss of a father, brother, and friend. Community members gathered near the scene in the aftermath, leaving flowers and lighting candles in his memory. Neumann was known as a kind and hardworking man who was well-liked by his neighbors.
The Philadelphia Police Homicide Unit continues to pursue leads and gather evidence related to the case.
