  • Authorities Arrest 51-Year-Old Man in Fatal Early Morning Shooting

Authorities Arrest 51-Year-Old Man in Fatal Early Morning Shooting

PALATKA, FL —  Palatka police have arrested and identified the suspect involved in a deadly early morning shooting that left one man dead and another in critical condition on Friday, July 11, 2025. The suspect, 51-year-old Justin Dale Mullins, now faces multiple felony charges stemming from a violent confrontation that shocked the local community.

According to a press release issued by the Palatka Police Department, Mullins was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. The arrest comes following a chaotic scene near the intersection of Crill Avenue and Laurel Street, where the shooting occurred just before dawn.

At approximately 5:46 a.m., dispatchers with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office began receiving a flurry of 911 calls from residents reporting gunfire in the area. One of those calls came from Mullins himself, who reportedly told the dispatcher that he had shot “at least one person.”

Responding officers from the Palatka Police Department arrived at the scene moments later and discovered a grisly scene. Two men had sustained gunshot wounds, and a white mid-sized Ford truck had crashed into the signpost of Little Sprouts Learning Center, a local daycare center that, fortunately, was not open at the time of the incident.

Emergency medical personnel attempted life-saving measures on both victims at the scene. One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims, pending notification of next of kin.

Police have yet to publicly confirm the motive behind the shooting, but investigators believe the incident may have stemmed from a domestic or personal dispute. Mullins remained at the scene after the shooting and was taken into custody without further incident.

“The suspect remained cooperative during the initial investigation,” said a spokesperson for the Palatka Police Department. “Our detectives are currently working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the altercation that led to this tragic event.”

Residents of the normally quiet neighborhood were left stunned by the incident. Several nearby homeowners described hearing multiple gunshots early in the morning, followed by the sound of a vehicle crashing. One local resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said, “It was terrifying. You just don’t expect to wake up to gunshots and sirens right outside your window.”

The proximity of the crash to Little Sprouts Learning Center, a facility that serves dozens of young children, added another layer of alarm for community members. “Thankfully the daycare was closed at the time, and no children were present or injured,” noted one officer on the scene.

As investigators continue piecing together what led to the fatal confrontation, Mullins remains in custody at the Putnam County Jail. He is expected to make his first court appearance early next week.

The Palatka Police Department is urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has relevant information to come forward. Witnesses can contact the department directly or provide anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers.

This tragedy marks another chapter in the city’s ongoing struggle with gun violence and interpersonal conflict that has left too many families grieving. As the community begins to process this senseless act, local leaders are calling for calm, cooperation, and reflection.

“This is a heartbreaking situation for all involved,” said Chief Jason Shaw. “We are committed to a thorough investigation and justice for the victims. We encourage the community to support one another and reach out for help if they are facing personal conflicts or know someone who may be in crisis.”

As the investigation continues, the identities of the victims and additional details surrounding the events that led up to the shooting are expected to be released in the coming days.

  • Tragedy Unfolds in Arlington: Murder-Suicide at Local Hair Salon Claims Two Lives

Tragedy Unfolds in Arlington: Murder-Suicide at Local Hair Salon Claims Two Lives

ARLINGTON, TX — July 11, 2025 – A quiet Friday morning turned tragic in Arlington, Texas, as a murder-suicide unfolded inside a bustling local hair salon, leaving two people dead and a community in shock. Authorities confirmed that 37-year-old William Todd Austin and 37-year-old Michelle Williams lost their lives in what investigators are describing as a domestic violence incident that escalated into a fatal confrontation.

According to Arlington Police Department officials, the harrowing event occurred just before 10:00 a.m. at a salon located in a busy shopping plaza off South Cooper Street. Witnesses reported hearing a series of gunshots followed by screams, prompting a flood of 911 calls. Officers responded within minutes to the distressing scene.

Upon arrival, law enforcement found William Todd Austin suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite emergency efforts, Austin was pronounced dead at the scene. Michelle Williams, who was also located inside the salon with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. She was later pronounced dead.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the two had a prior romantic relationship that had recently ended. Friends and family members indicated that there had been ongoing tensions and unresolved issues between the pair. While the exact details and motive are still under investigation, authorities believe Michelle Williams entered the salon armed, confronted Austin, and shot him multiple times before turning the weapon on herself.

Police Chief Al Jones addressed the media during a press conference later in the afternoon, expressing sorrow for the lives lost and the trauma endured by witnesses and bystanders. “This was a senseless act of violence that claimed two lives and deeply impacted everyone present. Our hearts go out to the families of both individuals, the salon employees, and customers who witnessed this tragic incident.”

Several salon workers and clients were present during the incident. Many were treated on the scene for shock and trauma, while others have since come forward for counseling services provided by victim advocacy teams.

Michelle Williams was a longtime stylist at the salon and was reportedly well-known and liked by many clients. William Todd Austin, described by friends as friendly and outgoing, had recently been attempting to rebuild his life after the breakup. Neither had any known history of violent behavior, although close friends mentioned previous disputes and emotional distress following the relationship’s end.

The tragedy has sparked conversations across Arlington about the silent struggles of mental health, domestic disputes, and the devastating consequences of unresolved emotional turmoil. Local advocacy groups, including Women’s Haven and SafeHaven of Tarrant County, have since renewed calls for public awareness and prevention efforts surrounding domestic violence and mental health support.

Mayor Jim Ross also issued a statement following the event:
“We mourn the loss of two lives in our city today. Arlington stands with the families and friends affected by this unspeakable tragedy. We must continue to strengthen our commitment to mental health resources and support networks for individuals in crisis.”

Authorities continue to investigate the full sequence of events leading up to the murder-suicide, including reviewing surveillance footage and gathering testimonies from eyewitnesses. Police urge anyone with additional information to come forward as they work to complete their investigation.

Crisis counselors remain on standby for those impacted by the event, and a candlelight vigil is being planned for the victims by members of the community.

In the aftermath of such a heartbreaking event, Arlington joins together in mourning — hoping for healing, reflection, and renewed dedication to preventing similar tragedies in the future.
