It is with shattered hearts and profound sorrow that we share the devastating news of the loss of Heather Fountain, a radiant light in the lives of all who knew her. Born in Detroit, Michigan, and having recently celebrated her milestone 50th birthday, Heather’s sudden departure leaves an immeasurable void in a world she graced with elegance, warmth, and brilliance.
Heather made her home in Ypsilanti Township, where she wove beauty and intention into every space she touched. Her eye for design and her impeccable sense of style made her home a haven—a true reflection of the woman she was: creative, vibrant, and effortlessly elegant. Known for her flair and festive spirit, Heather never missed an opportunity to turn everyday moments into unforgettable celebrations. Whether it was a holiday dinner or a simple gathering, she brought sparkle and joy to everything she touched.
A proud graduate of Franklin High School, Heather pursued her passion for the arts at the University of Michigan, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts before achieving her Master’s Degree in Fashion Design and Merchandising at Wayne State University. Her love for visual storytelling found its perfect match in her career in the retail industry. Since 2017, she poured her heart into her work at Target, ultimately serving as a Visual Merchandising Director—a role that allowed her to inspire and lead with creativity on a global scale.
But Heather was far more than her remarkable accomplishments. She was a gifted dancer and longtime performer with the Jazz Dance Theater in Ann Arbor, a beloved teacher who shared her passion in dance studios, and a world traveler whose adventurous spirit knew no bounds. One of her most treasured memories was soaring above the Serengeti in a hot air balloon, where the love of her life, Carl “Hoss” Ostenson, proposed to her. Their love story was the kind that filled rooms with light.
Heather leaves behind her loving fiancé and soulmate, Hoss, her devoted parents Barry and Sharon Fountain, her cherished sister Holly and brother-in-law Jon Thompson, and her two adoring nieces, Adeline and Everlee, who will forever hold their Auntie Heather in their hearts. She also leaves behind countless cousins, beloved aunts and uncles, and treasured friends and neighbors who were all touched by her warmth and generosity.
Heather’s life was a symphony of art, love, laughter, and color. She was the heartbeat of every holiday, the sparkle in every celebration, the comforting presence in quiet moments. To know Heather was to be loved by her, truly and deeply.
As we grieve this heartbreaking loss, we find solace in the beautiful legacy she leaves behind—a life lived fully, a heart given freely, and memories that will forever dance in the light she left behind.
Heather, you were truly one of a kind. You will be missed beyond words and loved beyond measure.
