According to Lauderdale County Sheriff Joe Hamilton, deputies responded to the scene around 8:00 p.m. on July 14, 2025, where they discovered the body of a male lying near the roadside. Emergency personnel confirmed the victim was deceased upon arrival. The vehicle that struck the victim had fled the scene.

Deputies interviewed a witness who revealed that the victim, identified as 27-year-old Perry James Crakaal, had been riding in a vehicle with his brother and the witness prior to the incident.
