Sulphur Springs Man Sentenced in Million-Dollar Theft Ring: Full Restitution Paid as Part of Plea Deal

SULPHUR SPRINGS, TX – In a high-profile case involving a sweeping theft operation valued at over $1 million, Everett Van Jennings, 36, of Sulphur Springs, has been sentenced to 15 years in state prison after pleading guilty to first-degree felony theft of property, according to 8th Judicial District Attorney Will Ramsay.

Jennings entered his guilty plea on July 10, 2025, and in a significant turn of events, paid full restitution—a total of $222,169.98—at the time of sentencing. The funds were delivered via cashier’s checks made payable directly to each of the victims, ensuring that, as Ramsay noted, “all victims were made whole.” In addition to restitution, Jennings was also ordered to pay a $2,500 fine.

The case, which has garnered substantial local and regional attention, stemmed from a complex criminal operation in which Jennings was accused of orchestrating the trafficking of stolen property valued at more than $1 million. Investigators linked him to a range of high-value thefts, including luxury cars like Lamborghinis and Corvettes, along with boats, heavy machinery, and trailers. The ring spanned multiple jurisdictions and involved elaborate fraud tactics to conceal identities and mislead law enforcement.

The operation began to unravel when a 2021 Lamborghini, reported stolen, was tracked to Jennings’ residence in Hopkins County. That discovery prompted a broader investigation that uncovered a trail of stolen assets and fraudulent activity. According to prosecutors, Jennings used the identity of a former tenant—creating a fake social media account in the man’s name, using his information to sell stolen property, and even going so far as to send threatening text messages impersonating the victim. One of those messages allegedly warned that if the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) continued its investigation, the sheriff’s reelection campaign would be targeted online.

Jennings had been held at Hopkins County Jail since April 4, 2024, while facing a long list of serious charges, including:

    • Tampering with a witness
    • Theft of property valued at $30,000 or more
    • Fraudulent use or possession of identifying information
    • Altering or removing vehicle serial numbers with intent to change identity
    • Two counts of engaging in organized criminal activity
    • Evading arrest or detention with a previous conviction
    • Capital murder for remuneration
    • Online impersonation

While these charges carried the potential for even more severe consequences, as part of the plea agreement, all other pending charges were dismissed in exchange for the prison sentence and full restitution related to the theft case.

District Attorney Will Ramsay emphasized the outcome’s significance: “This plea ensures that victims are compensated and justice is served. The full restitution being paid upfront is a rare outcome in cases of this magnitude.”

The successful resolution of the case represents a major achievement for local law enforcement and prosecutors, who worked extensively to piece together the sprawling network of thefts and fraudulent activities tied to Jennings.

As of this writing, Jennings remains in the custody of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, where he will serve out his 15-year sentence.

In Loving Memory of Blake Carpenter ,A Precious Life Lost Too Soon Amid Tragedy in Hunt, Texas

It is with the deepest sorrow that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Blake Carpenter, a sweet and vibrant 3-year-old girl whose life was tragically cut short during the recent flooding in Hunt, Texas.

Blake and her family were visiting the area when the unforgiving waters of the Guadalupe River began to rise in the dark hours of the night. What was meant to be a peaceful getaway turned into a nightmare, as the house they were staying in was suddenly overwhelmed by flash flooding. According to the family, the water came so quickly and with such force that they found themselves in a terrifying and inescapable situation.

Blake’s mother, Mallory, and older brother, Dalton, managed to escape the floodwaters and reach safety. But the unimaginable happened — Blake, just three years old, did not survive. Her body was recovered after a desperate search. Her father, Brian Carpenter, remains missing as search and rescue efforts continue.

There are no words that can capture the depth of pain and devastation this family is enduring. The loss of a child, so young and full of life, is a grief beyond comprehension. Blake was described by loved ones as joyful, curious, and full of light — the kind of little girl who left happiness wherever she went. Her laughter was infectious, her smile unforgettable, and her love for her family pure and boundless.

Blake had her whole life ahead of her — a life filled with dreams, first days of school, birthday parties, and bedtime stories. The world is dimmer without her in it.

As we hold space for this family in the face of unbearable heartbreak, we also remember the love they shared — a mother who fought to save her children, a brother who will now carry the memory of his sister in his heart, and a father who is still unaccounted for but whose strength and devotion are reflected in the family he helped raise.

To Mallory and Dalton: our hearts are with you. Your courage is unimaginable, and your loss is unfathomable. We grieve with you. We pray for you. And we send all the love we have as you walk through this darkness.

To the entire Carpenter family and all who knew and loved Blake: may you find strength in community, comfort in the memories, and peace in the legacy of a beautiful little girl who touched so many lives in her short time here.

    Rest in peace, sweet Blake.

    You were deeply loved.

    You will never be forgotten.

And we pray that your father is found and brought home.

  • In Memory of Nehemiah McMillon: A Bright Light Gone Too Soon

In Memory of Nehemiah McMillon: A Bright Light Gone Too Soon

A tragedy unfolded last night in the Winton Hills community — one that has left an entire neighborhood in mourning and a family shattered by unthinkable loss. Nehemiah McMillon, just 12 years old, was gunned down in a senseless act of violence that has rocked everyone who knew and loved him.

A family friend shared a video with me today — a short clip of Nehemiah full of life, smiling in that unmistakable way that instantly made you feel warm inside. That smile… it’s the kind that could light up an entire room. And now, to know that it’s gone — that we’ll never see it again — is simply devastating.

Those who knew Nehemiah describe him as a sweet, kind-hearted boy who brought joy to everyone around him. He was playful, curious, full of dreams — the way any 12-year-old should be. His friends remember him as someone who loved to laugh, someone who could brighten even the darkest day with a joke or a goofy moment. His family speaks of a child with so much love to give, a kid who was just beginning to find his place in the world.

But that world failed him last night. A child with so much potential was taken in an instant, and the question that haunts us all is: Why? Why Nehemiah? Why any child?

As the community grieves, there’s a shared sense of anger, heartbreak, and helplessness. Gun violence continues to steal our children, our future, and our peace — and we cannot let this become normal. We must say Nehemiah’s name. We must remember his face, his laughter, and the life that was stolen from him far too soon. He was not a statistic. He was a son, a grandson, a friend, a classmate, a beautiful soul with dreams that will never be fulfilled.

To Nehemiah’s family — our hearts are with you. We cannot begin to imagine the pain you are experiencing, but we stand beside you in this sorrow. We mourn with you. We remember with you. And we demand better for our children because of Nehemiah.

To those who loved him: hold onto the memories, the laughter, the joy. Speak his name. Keep his spirit alive in the stories you tell and the love you continue to share in his honor.

    Rest in peace, sweet Nehemiah.

    You were deeply loved.

    You will be dearly missed.

And you will never, ever be forgotten.

  • In Loving Memory of Maxwell: A Joyful Light Gone Too Soon

In Loving Memory of Maxwell: A Joyful Light Gone Too Soon

It is with heavy hearts and profound sorrow that we share the devastating news of a tragic accident involving sweet five-year-old Maxwell—a vibrant, joyful, and loving little boy who brought boundless light to the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know him. Words feel woefully inadequate in capturing the heartbreak of this loss, a loss that has left a deep void in the hearts of his family, friends, and community.

Maxwell was not just a child—he was a ray of sunshine. From the moment he entered this world, he radiated joy and pure love. With his infectious giggles, curious mind, and compassionate spirit, Maxwell had the rare ability to uplift those around him. His big brown eyes sparkled with wonder, and his smile—so wide and so full of life—had the power to brighten the darkest of days.

Whether he was chasing butterflies in the backyard, creating imaginative worlds with his toys, or simply cuddling with loved ones, Maxwell embodied innocence and happiness. He adored animals, loved story time, and would light up with excitement at the mention of his favorite superheroes. He was especially fond of dinosaurs and often dreamed of becoming a “dino doctor” so he could take care of them when they were sick.

More than anything, Maxwell loved his family. He was his parents’ pride and joy, a loyal little brother, and a gentle soul who gave the best hugs. His love was unconditional, his laughter contagious, and his heart unimaginably big for someone so young.

The accident that took Maxwell from this world occurred unexpectedly, leaving all who knew him in a state of shock and grief. In the blink of an eye, a family’s life was shattered. The details of the incident are heartbreaking, and out of respect for the family’s privacy, they are not being shared publicly at this time. What remains at the center of this tragedy, however, is a beautiful boy whose life was tragically cut far too short.

As the family grieves this unimaginable loss, they are surrounded by an outpouring of love and support from the community. Friends, neighbors, and even strangers have come together to wrap Maxwell’s family in kindness, offering prayers, meals, donations, and most importantly, the strength of shared sorrow.

To honor Maxwell’s memory, his family hopes to create a foundation or scholarship in his name—one that will carry forward his legacy of joy, learning, and compassion. In the coming days, details will be shared about a celebration of life, where loved ones will gather not to mourn alone, but to remember and celebrate the vibrant spirit of a little boy who gave so much in his short time on earth.

In this time of unthinkable grief, let us hold Maxwell close in our hearts. Let us remember his laughter, his love, and the way he made the world a brighter place. Though his life was brief, his impact was profound. Maxwell will never be forgotten. He lives on in every heart he touched, in every smile he inspired, and in every act of kindness done in his name.

Rest in peace, sweet Maxwell. You were loved more than words can say, and your light will forever shine.

“Some people only walk this earth for a short time. Their departure reminds us that angels are watching over us.”

  • In Loving Memory of Mina Bojnordi ,“Though her time with us was brief, her impact was boundless.”

In Loving Memory of Mina Bojnordi ,“Though her time with us was brief, her impact was boundless.”

Today, with hearts heavy with sorrow, we gather in spirit and remembrance to honor the life of Mina Bojnordi — a bright, beautiful soul taken from this world far too soon. Her passing is not only a loss to her family and closest loved ones but to every life she touched, every space she graced, and every heart she warmed with her radiant presence.

Mina was more than just a beloved daughter, sister, and friend — she was a light. Whether through her laughter, her kindness, or her unwavering empathy, Mina had a way of making others feel seen and valued. Her smile could soften the hardest days, and her words often came as quiet comfort when the world seemed overwhelming. She was someone who understood the power of love and used it generously, often without recognition or reward.

Those who knew Mina will remember her intellect, curiosity, and creativity. She was a dreamer, but also a doer — always striving to better herself, to reach out to others, and to live a life filled with meaning. She found beauty in the simple and the ordinary, and she reminded those around her to slow down and appreciate the little things — a walk under the stars, a meaningful conversation, a song that touched the soul.

But perhaps most powerfully, Mina was a connector. She forged bonds that transcended time and space — deep friendships, lasting family ties, and relationships that uplifted and enriched every aspect of her world. Her spirit drew people in, her loyalty kept them close, and her love left an imprint that cannot be erased.

The pain of losing Mina is immense. There are no words that can fill the silence left in her absence, no gestures that can truly convey the depth of this grief. Yet even in this sorrow, there is gratitude — for the time we had with her, for the memories we will hold close, and for the legacy she leaves behind. Mina taught us to live openly, love fully, and give freely. And that is a lesson we will carry forward.

As we mourn her loss, we also celebrate her life. We honor her passions, her laughter, her kindness, and her courage. And we promise to keep her memory alive — not only in our thoughts and hearts but through our actions. To be more like Mina in the way we care, in the way we forgive, and in the way we love.

To Mina’s family, our hearts are with you. We extend our deepest sympathies and hope you feel the collective embrace of a community that grieves alongside you. May you find strength in knowing how deeply Mina was loved and how profoundly she will be missed.

Rest peacefully, dear Mina. Your light will never dim. It lives on in every person you touched — and it shines through every act of love done in your name.
