SAGINAW, Mich – A shooting on Saginaw’s south side is under active investigation after a man was injured in a hail of gunfire Thursday afternoon. The incident took place around 1:30 p.m. in the 2600 block of Hampshire Street, near Livingston Drive, prompting a swift response from local law enforcement.
According to the Saginaw Police Department, the man had just left a residence on Hampshire Street when multiple gunshots were fired, striking the vehicle he was driving. The victim, whose name has not been released, was able to drive himself to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities say the man was fortunate to have escaped with relatively minor wounds, considering the intensity of the gunfire.
Victim Uncooperative as Investigation Continues
While police continue to gather evidence and canvas the neighborhood for witnesses, their efforts have been hindered by the lack of cooperation from the victim. Officers reported that the man refused to provide details about the incident, including where he believed the shots came from or who might be responsible.
“Unfortunately, at this time, the victim has not been forthcoming with information,” said a Saginaw police spokesperson. “This makes identifying suspects and understanding the full scope of what happened more challenging.”
Community On Edge
The broad-daylight shooting has unsettled residents in the typically quiet neighborhood. Several neighbors reported hearing the gunshots and seeing the damaged vehicle speed away shortly afterward.
“It’s scary,” one resident said. “There are kids around here, people just trying to live their lives. To have something like this happen in the middle of the day—it’s just wrong.”
Police Seek Public’s Help
The Saginaw Police Department is urging anyone who may have been in the area at the time or who has surveillance video from nearby homes or businesses to come forward.
“At this stage, any information—no matter how small—could be critical in helping us identify the person or persons responsible for this shooting,” authorities said.
Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-422-JAIL (5245) or through the Crime Stoppers of Michigan website.
Ongoing Violence in the City
This latest shooting adds to a growing concern about gun violence in Saginaw, particularly on the city’s south side. Law enforcement officials continue to stress the importance of community cooperation in curbing these incidents.
“This is not just a police issue—it’s a community issue,” said one officer at the scene. “We need residents to speak up and help us keep neighborhoods safe.”
As of Thursday evening, no arrests had been made, and no suspect description has been released.
Police say they will remain in the area throughout the day to follow up on leads and maintain a presence in the community.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Saginaw Police Department or Crime Stoppers.
